  • Any review and update of policies, procedures, and guidelines

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) lead.

North Baddesley Surgery has two leads for IPC:

  • Debbie Reynolds – Practice Nurse
  • Andreas Photiou – GP Partner.

Debbie Reynolds has attended IPC Lead training courses and attends regular IPC updates. The last update was July 2025.

Infection Transmission incidents (Significant Events)

There have been no needle stick injuries this last year at North Baddesley Surgery and only 1 significant event pertaining to infection control. This involved the loss of some travel vaccines that were not promptly refrigerated after being received by Reception staff.

Following this incident we have undertaken some training with Reception staff about the importance of alerting the Nursing team of any vaccine deliveries and the need to have cold items stored immediately on receipt of these items. There has also been a poster made for Reception staff to remind them of what to do when vaccines arrive.

Infection Control Audit and Actions

Our annual infection control audit 2024/25 has been carried out in 3 separate sections. Following this audit we have bought new equipment for examination rooms. These have included:

  • X4 new examination lights
  • Blood pressure machines and large cuffs
  • Weighing scales
  • Measuring sticks.
  • Black pedal bins for clinical rooms

We now have Claire Frazer as our Ventilation lead. Each of the clinical rooms have been assessed for the sharps bins that are needed and small posters are to be put in each room to state this.

Audits have been carried out to look at post operative infection rates in Dermatology patients, sharp bin audit and a rubbish bin audit.

Immunisation

As a practice we are updating our staff vaccination records to check all clinical staff are up to date with Hep B vaccinations as well as encouraging all patient facing staff to have MMR vaccinations. All staff are encouraged to have their annual influenza vaccinations

Training

All staff are given IPC training on induction as well as annual updates. December 2024 was dedicated as Infection Control month with handwashing training. We had daily updates from ‘Elf and Safety’ with questions and challenges on the staff Whatsapp group regarding infection control issues. We introduced tiger bags at North Baddesley Surgery for all non-infective waste. Infection control policies were updated in June 2025 and are being displayed on our staff notice board as well as downloaded to Teamnet for easy access for staff.
