Please be aware that some vaccinations take 2-4 weeks to become their most effective, therefore we request 8 weeks’ notice before your date of departure. If you need vaccinations more urgently, we can provide you a copy of your immunisation history and you can attend the travel clinic.
We are only able to offer NHS vaccinations.
Please complete a Travel Risk Assessment form and return it to Reception before you book an appointment (this can be completed electronically download the travel risk assessment form and email to the surgery hiowicb-hsi.northbaddesleysurgery@nhs.net ). Alternatively, you can collect a form from Reception.
If you’re planning to travel outside the UK, you may need to be vaccinated against some of the serious diseases found in other parts of the world.
These vaccines are free because they protect against diseases thought to represent the greatest risk to public health if they were brought into the country.
Which travel vaccines will I have to pay for?

Why vaccinations are important
All children are checked regularly during their first five years of life. This will be done by the Health Visitor. You will either be contacted by the health visitor or sent an appointment to attend at the surgery.
HPV Vaccination – Protection against Cervical Cancer
Since 2008, the UK has incorporated HPV vaccination into the schedule for girls aged 12 to 13, and boys of the same age, since September 2019. The vast majority of cervical cancers are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV types 16 and 18) and the introduction of the vaccine has led to a significant fall in the incidence of cervical cancer diagnosis amongst people who have completed the full HPV vaccination programme.
Annual protection against influenza is offered to senior citizens and those at high risk, e.g., with chronic heart, chest, some breathing disorders, and diabetes.
Tetanus and Polio
Protection against tetanus and polio should be kept up to date. A full primary course with a booster at 15 should be followed by at least two boosters at 10 year intervals to protect throughout life.

Prior to your appointment it is important to have some routine swabs done 2 weeks before the coil fitting, these can be done at the surgery by one of our practice nurses.
Minor Surgery & Joint Injections
The surgery has a well equipped treatment room and some of the partners are trained in a range of minor surgical & joint injection procedures. Dermatology and musculoskeletal medicine are two other areas where some partners have either had hospital training or in the process of developing a special interest in. Appointments for a minor operation/joint injection should only be made after an initial consultation with one of the doctors.
